How to Keep You Pet Healthy During Summer Travels
Taking your pets on vacation can be a ton of fun, but it also possible that your beloved pet could be exposed to diseases that aren’t prevalent in your hometown.
A trip to Texas could expose your pets to ticks that carry Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, which is a disease that can cause fever, depression, diarrhea, and respiratory complications. In Tennessee there is the possibility of exposure to a fungal disease called Blastomycosis that can cause a fever, skin sores, and blindness. Blastomycosis can be transmitted from pets to owners! Where you aware that the heartworm disease is more likely the further south you travel? Wherever your travels may take you, there is likely some disease that is unique to that region.
CEDARCREST veterinarians recommend that you check with the vet clinic before you travel, so that you can take the proper precautions, which might include vaccinations. If you are returning from a trip and your pet is sick, it is important to tell your veterinarian exactly where you and your pet visited as it may help to find the diagnosis quickly. It can be a lot of fun taking a trip with your pet, so don’t be afraid, just be prepared!
